darron swann was born in 104 ac under the name jones to a smallfolk woman by the name of eva. captured alongside johanna swann in 100 ac by lysene pirates, eva was forced into slavery in lys. the two girls were each others’ companions on their difficult journey and sold into the same whorehouse to become pillowslaves. unlike johanna who eventually rose to power as a legendary courtesan known as the black swan, eva died in childbirth after being impregnated by one of her slavers. with her dying breath, she pleaded her friend to take care of her son and help him in returning to westeros one day as she herself could not.though johanna acquiesced to eva’s plea, she did not have the time or means to take care of a child, only affording him the barest of protections and allowing him to live in the whorehouse where he worked as a serving boy and received a rudimentary education. when he was ten years old, he saw his biological father, one of the frequenters of the brothel, kicked to death by a horse. following a brief but serious bout of illness four years later, jones set his sights on a better life, first attempting to join the lyseni army before settling as a sellsword. with some money and provisions from johanna, jones sets out to westeros, alighting first in dorne and travelling towards the stormlands.journeying through the prince’s pass, jones encounters darron swann, the firstborn son and heir to house swann of stonehelm who had been away from home for several years working to attain knighthood. after rescuing darron from a tavern fight, jones finds employment as his hired guard, though darron is killed in a skirmish on their journey towards stonehelm. not wanting to return back to an unstable life of poverty and instability, jones disposes of darron’s body and steals his affects and armour, and assumes darron’s identity.upon his arrival at stonehelm, he is accepted as darron by house swann, as most have not seen the real boy in many years. the lord and lady of house swann are not so easily fooled and jones confesses that he is not their son in private, admitting instead to being the son of lord swann’s long-lost cousin johanna, stating that she had sent him to westeros as soon as she was able and that he had encountered darron only briefly before his death. accepting this as truth and knowing of lord swann’s illness and their secondborn son’s follies making him unsuitable to become heir, he is allowed to assume darron’s identity and becomes the heir to stonehelm.
